Welcome!

After graduating from Northwestern University and the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine, Dr. Emily Methangkool entered the University of California, Los Angeles as an anesthesiology resident. She subsequently completed her fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesiology in 2013, becoming a diplomate of both the American Board of Anesthesiology and of the National Board of Echocardiography in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography.

She joined the faculty of UCLA as an Assistant Clinical Professor in 2013, initially working with the residency program on educational initiatives.

As a physician who has always been passionate about patient safety, quality, and outcomes, Dr. Methangkool recognized the need for additional training in these areas and subsequently obtained a Master in Public Health from the Fielding School of Public Health at UCLA in 2018.

Dr. Methangkool has published multiple research articles on cardiac anesthesiology and transesophageal echocardiography, and has spoken on the regional and national stages on topics relating to patient safety and anesthesiology. She currently serves on several committees for the American Society of Anesthesiology, California Society of Anesthesiology, and Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists. She is the Director of the Social Media Ambassador Program for the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation and Vice-Chair of the Women in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Special Interest Group for the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists.

Dr. Methangkool enjoys spending time with her family, her three lovely cats, and her mirrorless camera. You will occasionally find some of her photography on this site.
